California Wildfire Public SafetyMID Wildfire Mitigation PlanWildfires have become a real and growing threat in California. MID's goal is to provide safe, reliable and affordable electric service to our communities. To meet this goal, we design, construct, maintain and operate our power lines and equipment in a manner that minimizes the risk of catastrophic wildfires. MID's service territory is located in a region of California that has a very low wildfire risk. Despite low risk, MID's Wildfire Mitigation Plan outlines a range of activities and actions we are taking to help our region prevent and respond to the increasing risk of wildfires.
Revised Draft 2023-2025 Wildfire Mitigation Plan - Request for Public CommentsMID is in the process of updating and submitting the revised 2023-2025 Wildfire Mitigation Plan to the California Wildfire Safety Advisory Board and is currently seeking public comment on the draft plan. Draft 2023-2025 Wildfire Mitigation Plan Comments can be emailed to subbaiah.pasupulati@mid.org by June 28, 2024. Past MID Wildfire Mitigation Plans & Reports
PG&E Community Wildfire Safety ProgramAs a safety precaution, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) has recently been promoting their Community Wildfire Safety Program and plans to temporarily turn off power to fire-prone areas during extreme weather conditions. These are referred to as Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS). MID’s service area differs from PG&E’s area as our infrastructure isn’t within critical wildfire areas. MID’s electric system also operates separately from PG&E’s, so any PG&E power outage - including a PSPS - won’t directly affect MID and our customers. General California Wildfire InformationAs stated in MID's Wildfire Mitigation Plan, MID doesn't anticipate preemptive power shutoffs to our customers due to local wildfire-related issues. However, California wildfires could possibly cause regional or statewide power supply constraints that would affect MID's ability to serve our customers. We encourage our customers to always be prepared for power outages. Power outage tips can be found here. In the event that you do experience a power outage, please call MID (day or night) at:
