Canal Safety

Splasher, the MID Canal Safety Frog, encourages everyone to learn to swim.

Parents

Canals are usually full March through October. It's always the right time to have a family discussion about water safety. To get the discussion going, use Splasher’s Canal Safety Rules:

1. LEARN TO SWIM!
2. NEVER SWIM ALONE!
3. SWIM AND PLAY IN SAFE PLACES!
4. NEVER SWIM IN CANALS!

Swim Lessons

The City of Modesto sponsors swim lessons each summer. Class schedules and registration information may be obtained from the City of Modesto's Recreation and Neighborhoods Department at (209) 577-5344. The MID annually co-sponsors beginning swim lessons with the City of Modesto.

Places to Swim

The City of Modesto has 22 neighborhood pools for children 12 and under and a Summer recreational swim program at Beyer, Davis, Downey, Johansen and Modesto High Schools.
